Free Services for All Types of Cancer
The Wellness Community of Philadelphia, located at the historic Ridgeland Mansion in beautiful Fairmount Park, is a non-profit organization offering a wide menu of support services to people with cancer and their loved ones. Services include support groups, mind body workshops, educational seminars, creative art studios, exercise classes, and nutrition programs. At The Wellness Community, people with cancer join with others to learn they are not alone, and in doing so, they gain valuable knowledge and coping skills that enable them to find hope and support irrespective of their stage of disease.

The Wellness Community also offers programs and services in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.

In celebration of TWCP’s 15th anniversary and to create

a festive atmosphere for the Wellness Fair on Saturday, September 27, TWCP will be decorating Ridgeland with Red Balloons galore. Your Red Balloon purchase in honor or memory of a loved one will support TWCP’s free programs and services for people with cancer

and their caregivers.

MIND BODY SERIES:  HEALING WITH THE FIVE ELEMENTS 

WEDNESDAYS, SEPTEMBER 3, 10, 17, 24 - 1:30 - 3:30 PM

Gabriel Rocco leads this series that examines the healing power of the imagination and the five natural elements.  The mind–body practices taught at this workshop are appropriate for everyone.  Beginners are welcome.  Please RSVP by September 1.

 

NUTRITION MATTERS:  HEALTHIER GRILLING

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 - 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Sandra Mowry discusses healthier alternatives for the barbeque and flavorful grilling recipes.  Please RSVP by September 4.

 

RELAX WITH QIGONG

TUESDAYS, SEPTEMBER 9, 16, 23, 30, OCTOBER 7, 14 - 5:00 - 6:00 PM

Kevin Starboard leads this 6-week Qigong series which incorporates slow, meditative movements with deep abdominal breathing that can counteract the chronic stress and strain of daily life.  Please RSVP by September 8.

 

CAREGIVER CONNECTIONCARING FOR A LOVED ONE WITH CANCER

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - 6:30 - 8:00 PM

This is a monthly discussion group focused on topics of concern for those who are providing emotional support or physical care for a loved one with cancer.  In this session, the difficult questions that arise for caregivers throughout the cancer experience will be addressed.  Please RSVP by September 15.

 

COOKING FOR LIFE

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 - 6:30 - 8:00 PM 

Chef Suzanne Weltman brings her expertise to this “hands on” class.  Each session includes a new cooking experience for participants while learning about ingredients and meal preparation.  This class will focus on cooking basics of “knife skills” as a part of the meal preparation.  Please RSVP by September 16.

DAY OF REMEMBRANCE 

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5 - 4:00 - 5:30 PM

Join us at 4:00 PM for this ceremony that celebrates and honors loved ones who have died from cancer.  A reading of names will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.  Please register by September 30 and inform us of the name(s) of loved one(s) that you wish to have read.

 

OVERNIGHT RETREAT FOR WOMEN WITH BREAST CANCER

THE OTHER SIDE OF BREAST CANCER - MANAGING CHANGES TO BODY AND BEING

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, 4:00 PM - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, 3:30 PM

at The Ace Conference Center in Lafayette Hill

Attendance is limited.  Please register by October 3.

Cancer treatment can change a woman’s body in many ways, alter her identity, and impact her relationships.  This retreat offers the opportunity to explore these challenges through learning and community.  Workshops, meals, and accommodations are all free of charge.  Women who are dealing with active issues in breast cancer treatment or who are recovering from treatment (within two years) are eligible, along with a support person, to enjoy this time together.  Call 215-879-7733 for a brochure and application.
