On the evening of Friday, May 21, 2010, TWCP hosted its 12th annual Evening in the Park celebration and awards ceremony on-site at The Suzanne Morgan Center at Ridgeland. Governor Edward G. Rendell and chair emeritus Keith and Alixandra Morgan were honorary co-chairs. Two-hundred guests enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and dancing. The evening honored members of the community and a special guest with awards. The Medal of Victory was presented to B101 FM by TWCP board member and cancer survivor Melissa Grimm. B101 has been a great city-wide public service partner and a media sponsor of TWCP for over a decade. The Medal of Courage went to TWCP participant and volunteer Bernie Brody and was presented by board member and cancer survivor Rachel Delano Schwartz. He is not only a two-time survivor, but a dedicated weekly volunteer at TWCP and at other nonprofits. Finally, the Medal of Inspiration was awarded to author and cancer survivor Marisa Acocella Marchetto by NBC 10’s Lori Wilson. Marchetto’s graphic memoir, “Cancer Vixen,” has been an inspiration to survivors around the world and will soon be made into a film starring Cate Blanchett.
Special thanks to all of the evening’s sponsors and donors and co-chairs Tisa Baena and Joanie Hall. The radio sponsor was B101 FM and print sponsor, The Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News/philly.com. This event raised $150,000 to fund free programs of support, education and hope at TWCP.

The Wellness Community of Philadelphia congratulates the “Strides for Hope” team for their participation in the Penn Relays Distance Classic on April 18, 2010 and the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run on May 2, 2010. After several months of meeting together for weekly training sessions, the Striders proudly represented TWCP in both races. They asked friends and family members to sponsor their efforts in order to raise money for TWCP. This year’s team collected over $13,500 for TWCP!

The seventh annual “In Fashion!” luncheon and fashion show featured designer Tory Burch and her Holiday 2009 Collection. It took place on Monday, November 16, 2009 and this year, for the first time, all the models were cancer survivors. NBC 10’s Lu Ann Cahn and Rachel Delano Schwartz, and singer Lauren Hart were among the 13 beautiful models who wowed an audience of over 250 people at Gulph Mills Golf Club. The day also included a silent auction, a pop-up store that guests enjoyed (and that benefited TWCP), and inspirational comments from Schwartz. Cocktails with Tory Burch occurred the evening before at the home of Robert and Patty Isen; another 100 plus people attended that event.
Over $70,000 was raised by these events, thanks to the hard work of the “In Fashion!” committee led by co-chairs Jill Durovsik and Patty Isen, and the generosity of Tory Burch.
On Sunday, October 4, 2009, Malvern Prep hosted its 10th annual 5-mile Malvern C.A.R.E.S. (Cancer and AIDS Reach Everyone Somehow) Run/Walk. This inspirational event provided family and friends with the opportunity to help raise money for four local cancer and/or AIDS non-profit organizations, including TWCP. Malvern Prep students, along with community members and friends of the beneficiary organizations, participated and collected donations in support of their efforts. Over $5,000 was raised for TWCP. Thanks once again to Larry Legner and the rest of the staff and student body of Malvern Prep.
The Wellness Community of Philadelphia held its sixth annual “Help Make it Happen” mini golf event on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Tee’s Golf Center. The committee consisted of dozens of children, including co-chairs Caroline, Grant, and Drew Sterman and vice chairs Stephen and Katie Mostek, Samuel and Amanda Turner, and Zack Zuzelo. The honorary chair was an old friend of TWCP, sportscaster Lou Tilley. Over 125 children and adults participated this year, raising over $13,000. Special thanks to the committee and all the generous individuals and corporations whose donations of products and services have once again helped to make it happen.
